Ignace is the place for a nuclear waste storage site
After a 14-year site selection process, the area between Ignace and Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation was selected by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) as the site for a deep nuclear waste repository, in a Nov. 28 announcement.

South Bruce Will Not Be Site Of Nuclear Waste DGR, NWMO Selects Ignace
The NWMO decision to build the DGR in the Ignace-Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation area ends a lengthy site selection process that started in 2010. It began with 22 communities and by 2020 the NWMO had narrowed the process to the South Bruce-Saugeen Ojibway Nation and Ignace-Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation areas.

Updated: NWMO picks Northern Ontario to store nuclear fuel waste
In the NWMO release, federal Energy Minister Jonathan Wilkinson thanked the Northern Ontario communities and said “Thanks to our commitment to health and safety, Canadian nuclear energy will continue to power communities at home and allies around the world – providing Canadians jobs and opportunities for generations.”
