When Saquon Barkley signed a three-year deal to join the Eagles in the offseason, LeSean McCoy had a hunch that the 27-year-old running back would hurdle his franchise single-season rushing record this very year.

Barkley has done that and more, entering the MVP race, helping the Eagles win eight straight games, and, most importantly, smashing LeSean McCoy’s single-season rushing record. Barkley entered Sunday afternoon about 109 yards shy of breaking LeSean McCoy’s Eagles single-season record of 1,607 yards, set in 2013.

At his pace, Barkley should reach the milestone, even possibly ahead of the 17th game of the season that Eric Dickerson and the NFL did not have in 1984 when the record was set.
