Update: Northern Michigan under a winter storm warning until Sunday morning – up to 6 inches of snow
The National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning at 3:55 p.m. EST on Friday in effect until Sunday at 7 a.m. EST for Leelanau, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Manistee and Wexford counties.
Northern Michigan, U.P. hit hardest by lake effect snow
Parts of northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula are getting buried under snow reportedly as deep as 12 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Marquette. Meteorologists are receiving scattered reports of between 5-7 inches to up to 12 inches in some areas, Lily Chapman, a meteorologist with the weather service told The Detroit News.
