A measure to bar Montana Rep. Zooey Zephyr, the state’s first transgender legislator, from using the women’s restroom at the state capitol failed to pass the House rules committee Tuesday, with several Republicans voting against it.

An effort by Montana Republicans to ban trans politician Zooey Zephyr from women’s restrooms has failed. The policy, proposed by Republican Jerry Schillinger, would have required lawmakers in Montana to use facilities congruent with their sex assigned at birth.
