Telugu actor Allu Arjun, who is currently basking in the success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, was arrested on Friday morning by Hyderabad police in connection with a tragic stampede incident at Sandhya Theatre during the film’s premiere.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has defended Allu Arjun after a stampede on December 4 killed a woman at the screening of latter's movie Pushpa 2: The Rule. In a length X post on Monday, he also criticised Telangana government's ban on benefit shows at theatres in wake of the incident.

For those unversed, Allu Arjun decided to attend the screening of the film and his fans went berserk to see him. As hundreds of fans rushed to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun, the main gate of the theatre collapsed. Local cops resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
