The US Department of Energy will loan Rivian $6.6 billion to build an electric vehicle factory in Georgia, the company announced last night. The announcement comes as Democrats scramble to finalize their climate agenda before Donald Trump takes office.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Tuesday that Rivian New Horizon, LLC had received a nearly $6.6 billion loan to construct the Project Horizon manufacturing facility in Stanton Springs, Ga.

Rivian has secured conditional approval of a loan of up to $6.6 billion from the U.S. Department of Energy to build a production facility in Georgia – as long as the company won't actively oppose union organizing efforts.
