Xiaomi lifts the lid on the follow-up to its succesful SU7 sedan, with the YU7 looking to topple sales of the Tesla Model Y.

Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi has revealed its new YU7 sports utility vehicle (SUV) that it expects to commercially release in mid-2025, taking on similar models from Tesla, Li Auto and Nio in the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) market.

The YU7 will feature a CATL-sourced battery pack, though Xiaomi has yet to disclose exact specifications. For context, the SU7 sedan offers battery capacities of 73.6 kWh, 94.3 kWh, and 101 kWh, with a maximum CLTC range of 497 miles (800 km). Given its larger, heavier frame, the YU7 will likely fall slightly short of that figure, but not by much.

Now, Xiaomi is working on a second model, a compact SUV called the YU7. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun took to social media on Monday to share the first official photos of the YU7 after images of the SUV surfaced on the website of the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Xiaomi is set to launch its YU7 electric SUV in 2025, marking the company’s foray into the electric vehicle market.

Xiaomi has taken the wraps off its second model, the YU7 SUV. Based on the SU7 sedan, the electric vehicle marks the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer’s foray into the SUV segment. Xiaomi has said it will be available in China by July 2025,
