Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the three new criminal laws “freed India from colonial legacy” as they “are a concrete step towards fulfilling the ideals that Constitution has imagined for the country”.

PM Modi elaborated on his vision for India's criminal justice system in the future with the implementation of the three new laws, celebrating the disposal of the laws first brought in by the British.

The three new criminal laws were introduced to remove Colonial-era laws in a push to transform India's judicial system.
