The name of Devendra Fadnavis has been finalised as the new chief minister of Maharashtra who will be elected as the legislature party leader in a meeting to be held either on December 2 or 3, a senior BJP leader claimed on Sunday night.

More than a week after the Mahayuti won a landslide majority in Maharashtra polls, the new government is yet to be sworn in.

Speculation has also emerged that Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde, might be appointed as one of the Deputy Chief Ministers, with the Shiv Sena reportedly eyeing the Home portfolio.

Amid continued suspense over who will succeed Eknath Shinde as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, a senior BJP leader on Sunday night said that the name of Devendra Fadnavis has been finalised. The claim was made by a senior party leader while speaking to news agency PTI.

Devendra Fadnavis has been approved as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with a legislature party meeting scheduled soon.

However, despite the election results being announced on November 23, no official decision has been made regarding the chief minister. Following the results, Shinde, Fadnavis, and Pawar met with BJP President JP Nadda and Union Minister Amit Shah on November 28 to finalise a power-sharing agreement for the new government.
