Spike Lee’s upcoming movie 'High and Low,' is the filmmaker’s Americanized version of the 1963 Japanese crime thriller.

Kurosawa’s High and Low is loosely based on Ed McBain/Evan Hunter’s 1959 novel, King’s Ransom. The Japanese crime film follows a company executive who becomes a victim of extortion when his employee’s son is kidnapped for ransom. It starred Toshiro Mifune and Tatsuya Nakadai.

A$AP isn’t new to acting, as he first hit the screen in 2015 with the coming-of-age story, Dope. He then appeared in 2016’s Zoolander 2, took a couple years off, and appeared in 2024’s Born to Steal: Yours, Mine, Ours — a short film by Rihanna.

Spike Lee discussed Highest 2 Lowest, his remake of the 1963 Akira Kuwosawa movie High and Low. Lee said the movie will star Denzel Washington as a music mogul and A$AP Rocky in the lead role.

In April, it was revealed that Ice Spice would make her acting debut in Spike Lee’s English-language reinterpretation of the 1963 Akira Kurosawa crime thriller High And Low alongside Denzel Washington.
