Gus Malzahn chose coordinator job at Florida State because head coaching has ‘changed dramatically’
Malzahn is on the opposite side now. He resigned as UCF’s head coach to become Mike Norvell’s offensive coordinator in Tallahassee. Their link goes back even further than Malzahn’s title-game loss to the Seminoles.

Throughout his tenures at Auburn and UCF, Malzahn struggled with the idea of whether or not he should be both the team’s head coach and primary play-caller. Norvell had similar issues last year at Florida State, and has turned play-calling responsibilities over to Malzahn.
